About maRisha

Marisha is a purpose-driven creative. She has found comfort and enjoyment in writing since childhood. She began writing poetry in middle school and continued into her adult years. She became a spoken word poet while attending college and began sharing her poetry publicly in 2010. Her first book, Beauty for Ashes, was published in 2016.

An alumnus of North Carolina Central University, her educational background, field experiences, observation, life’s experiences, and walk with God have been the backdrop for writing. Writing topics typically address Christian living, hope, social issues, courage, transparency, honesty, and spiritual, as well as, personal growth.

Marisha understands the importance of uplifting others, balance, committing one’s self to God, and witnessing the transformation that is solely from Him. Her testimonies and desire to help others have been fueled by God’s redemption in her own life.

Meet Risha...

Let's begin with “Call me Risha.”  My birth name is Marisha but you can call me “Risha.”  I'm a spoken word poet, blogger, writer, advocate, and editor. Just like everyone else, I'm a product of grace with a story to tell.  I've had several experiences in which I found myself wanting to look and feel “the part.”  I carried myself in a way that was perceived as “cute” but I was uncomfortable. After several years and transitions, I have looked within myself to find who I truly am. So far, this is what I have: I am a plain Jane that has a passion for God, art, and helping others.  As a result, God has given me the vision of this brand to use my passions as a vehicle to sow hope, healing, growth, and encouragement.

I openly invite everyone to accept who they are in comfort without the burden of fitting into societal pigeon holes: secular humanist values, tradition, tax brackets, jean sizes, stilettos, hues, and etc.  “Call Me Risha” is a brand that has established a form of resistance towards societal pressures of conforming for acceptance. It begins with learning and loving who you are. Honesty is our launch pad.

There is an elixir of experiences, failures, triumphs, observations, and testaments within me that present God's grace and power through writing and other forms of art.

I'm ready to share it with the world.
