Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

  • We are tri-part beings: body (physical), soul (mind, will, and emotions), and spirit.

  • The Bible being the error-proof word of God reveals that God cares about every part of us and wants every part of us well. 

Focusing on the soul…

Mental Health is Emotional and Psychological (related to the mind) well-being
Everyone has mental health but everyone does not have mental health disorders
(e.g. Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)

When considering mental health disorders, ask questions to help determine the root:

  • When did it start? What happened when it started? What changes have I seen as a result?

Next, ask: What do I want to do about it?

  • Express it (share thoughts and emotions with someone else)

  • Cope with it (manage it so that it doesn’t “get out of control”)

  • Get rid of it (face it head on to heal)

Thought life (positive vs. negative thinking) –who are you listening to?

The enemy talks too: John 8:44 (NIV)

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

-Sometimes the enemy will tell you to do things out of your emotions that will only lead to more trouble or destruction (John 10:10)
